Great Rivers Council
Family Camp 2009

May 1-2 (Hohn Scout Reservation and Camp Thunderbird)
June 19-20 (Camp Thunderbird)
July 10-11 (Hohn Scout Reservation)

group eatingLoad up the car and bring mom, dad, little sister, little brother…the whole crew (but no pets, sorry) to camp for a one-night experience at one of the Great Rivers Council’s wonderful camps: the Hohn Scout Reservation located in Laurie, Mo at the Lake of the Ozarks and Camp Thunderbird, located 4 miles from Cairo, Mo.

Family camps are a terrific opportunity for folks that are new to camping to ‘test their wings’ in a safe setting with experienced Scouts and Scouters on hand to help, and is a perfect way to expose a future Boy Scout to the outdoor camping experience.

groupThe Family Camp program is designed to allow families to participate in all kinds of activities together. Cubs and their families will be able to test their skills at the BB gun and archery ranges, play at the waterfront, cast a line in our lake, learn about our natural world, hike around camp and more. One highlight of this program is the evening campfire. As you can see, there will be lots of fun activities for everyone, but there are no organized advancement efforts at Family Camp. Each family supplies their own equipment (some assistance may be available – see “Equipping my Scout for Camp”) and meals are provided as part of the camp fee. Families may register for family camp individually or as part of a group from their pack or den.

Peddle BoatsThe May Family Camp (1-night) is designed for families to arrive at camp on Saturday morning and check out by noon on Sunday. Meals for the May event will also include Saturday lunch in addition to dinner and Sunday breakfast. June and July camps are designed for a 1pm arrival on Day-1 and check out by 11am on Day-2.
